Amazon Folds Prime Video Scenes Into Its Checkout Loop
Amazon added Shop the Scene and an X-Ray Shop tab, tying more than 8,000 Prime Video titles to the same U.S. checkout account.
Amazon on Thursday, September 10, 2026 added a Shop tab to Prime Video’s X-Ray overlay and a Lens tool that matches outfits on screen. Both sit on the same U.S. account as the cart.
Shop the Show now covers more than 8,000 U.S. titles, including Prime originals, licensed films and series, and live sports. Shop the Scene is live on iOS and Android for more than 600 titles. You still finish the buy on your phone.
A Shop Tab Inside X-Ray
X-Ray already named actors, characters, and songs when you pressed up on a Fire TV remote. That overlay now carries a Shop tab with products tied to the title on screen, laid out in Amazon’s Thursday Prime Video shopping update.
The tab does not check out on the television. It points you to the Amazon Shopping app, which reads the same account used for Prime Video and drops you into a feed synced to that title. Last year’s version asked you to type a search. Opening the app during playback is enough.
Michelle Rothman, vice president of Prime Video shopping, said the company had seen strong demand from customers who want products inspired by what they watch, and that the expansion is meant to make that path easier. The remote is the aisle. The phone is still the register.
THE U.S. LAUNCH AT A GLANCE
- Shop the Show: More than 8,000 titles in the U.S., up from 1,300, spanning originals, licensed favorites, and live sports.
- Shop the Scene: More than 600 titles on iOS and Android, using Amazon Lens on a still from the episode.
- X-Ray Shop tab: Opens with the up button on a Fire TV remote, then hands the buy to the shopping app.
- Same account: Prime Video and Amazon Shopping must share a login, and recent titles remain shoppable for 30 days.
That 30-day window matters as much as the live overlay, because the storefront follows you after the credits. A show you finished last week can still load merch, toys, apparel, or home goods when you open the app.
Shop the Show Now Spans More Than 8,000 Titles
Shop the Show began as a second-screen trick: start Prime Video, unlock the Amazon Shopping app on the same login, and open Shop the Show while watching. If the title was enabled, its landing page loaded without a fresh query.
Amazon’s own guide still walks through that path and names the mix that first scaled in 2025, from Fallout and The Summer I Turned Pretty to Barbie, Star Wars, Wicked, NASCAR, and the National Women’s Soccer League. Categories on those pages run through toys, apparel, beauty, fashion, and home entertainment. A bobblehead, a LEGO set, or league merch is the intended impulse, not a pause-screen lecture.
The September jump from 1,300 U.S. titles to more than 8,000 is a coverage change, not a new checkout. Licensed catalogs and live sports now sit beside Prime originals on the same rail, which is how a Thursday night movie and a Sunday race feed one store.
THREE DOORS INTO THE SAME CART
| Tool | How you open it | U.S. title count | Where it runs |
|---|---|---|---|
| X-Ray Shop tab | Press up on the Fire TV remote | Tied to Shop the Show titles | Fire TV, then the shopping app |
| Shop the Show | Open the shopping app on the same account | More than 8,000 | iOS and Android |
| Shop the Scene | Tap a scene image and run Amazon Lens | More than 600 | iOS and Android |
Shop the Show is the wide net. Shop the Scene is the narrower visual pass. The Shop tab is the living-room signpost for both.
What Shop the Scene Finds
Shop the Scene is the piece that changes the job. Instead of a curated franchise page, the app syncs to the title in real time, you tap the on-screen image, and Amazon Lens looks for products inspired by outfits, home décor, and other objects in that frame.
We are always exploring new ways to enhance the streaming experience on Prime Video, and since launching Shop the Show, we have seen incredible enthusiasm from customers who love discovering products inspired by what they watch. With this expansion, we are making it easier than ever for Prime Video customers to shop what they see on screen.
Michelle Rothman, Vice President of Prime Video Shopping, September 10, 2026 announcement
Inspired is the load-bearing word. Characters often wear pieces Amazon and its sellers do not stock, including high-end labels and handmade costumes, so Lens will not always return the garment on the actor. It returns a similar look from the catalog you can buy tonight.
That is useful if you want the vibe of a jacket. It is also how a costume department’s work becomes a rack of near-matches. Visual search against a marketplace that large will fill gaps with lookalikes when the real item was never listed, which is a gift to third-party sellers and a problem for the brand that dressed the scene.
X-Ray Hands Frames to Amazon Lens
The plumbing is not a new store. It is Prime Video’s metadata engine wired into Amazon’s visual search. AWS describes Shop-the-Show as a dual-screen companion that uses AppSync to keep phone and television in step and Glue to prep the title data, while scene detection runs through X-Ray on Amazon Bedrock. Shop-the-Scene then takes X-Ray frames into Amazon Lens so a still becomes a product query.
Lens Live, which Amazon rolled out in 2025, already scanned a camera view and matched it against billions of catalog items, exact or close. Amanda Doerr, vice president of core shopping, said the live camera can match photos to similar Amazon items in a swipeable list, with on-device detection and a visual embedding model behind the matches. Shop the Scene points that same matcher at a Prime Video frame instead of your coffee table.
HOW THE SECOND SCREEN STAYS IN SYNC
- One login: Prime Video and Amazon Shopping have to share an account, or the storefront will not bind to the title.
- X-Ray as the index: The overlay that already tracks cast and music now supplies scene stills and related products.
- Lens as the matcher: A tap on the still runs visual search for similar apparel, décor, and props, not a guarantee of the original piece.
- Phone as checkout: The Fire TV tab shows the goods; the app holds saved addresses, cards, and Prime delivery.
YouTube, Peacock, Roku, and Disney have all tried shoppable layers, from merch shelves to remote-control buys. None of those tests sit on top of a catalog this size with a visual model already trained to replace a search box.
The Catalog Other Streamers Do Not Own
The second-order product is measurement. Amazon Ads already told brands that Prime Video reaches more than 130 million ad-supported U.S. customers each month, and that 88% of U.S. Prime Video viewers have shopped on Amazon. A scene that loads a SKU on the same login is not a mood board. It is a path from impression to order that a streamer without a store has to rent.
In May 2025, Amazon Ads added AI pause ads that write copy against the paused scene, plus shoppable ads with live store prices, deals, reviews, stock, and Prime shipping, so a remote click can move a product without leaving the stream. That paid path can finish on the television. Thursday’s Shop tab still hands you the phone. They are different doors into the same account.
Starting this year, we are introducing a contextual advertising experience that dynamically aligns the ad message with the content viewers are watching, creating a natural and relevant connection. Based on Amazon’s signals and fully addressable and authenticated audiences, we are uniquely positioned to offer viewers scene-aware ads as extensions of the entertainment experience, not interruptions.
Alan Moss, Vice President, Global Ads Sales, Amazon Ads, May 12, 2025 Upfront
Amazon told advertisers those earlier interactive formats showed a 30% lift in brand awareness and a 28% lift in purchase intent in a Kantar U.S. lab study in March 2024, and 36% more orders in an internal U.S. look at 46 advertisers running streaming TV ads on the Freevee app for Fire TV. Shop the Scene is not sold as those ad units. It still feeds the graph those units buy: who watched, which frame, which similar SKU, whether it shipped.
Netflix can pair its ads with Amazon shopping signals through Amazon’s demand-side tools. Walmart has been buying its way into connected-TV inventory. Amazon already owns the show, the pause, the matcher, and the cart. A rival can put a button on a stream. It cannot point that button at billions of SKUs the viewer already knows how to buy.
The quieter shift is that a first purchase no longer needs a search bar. A jacket can enter the cart mid-episode, the same way a listing can enter a chat or a marketplace scroll, which leaves brand sites further down the path and makes “optimize the funnel” a thinner brief. Local shops that used to catch the I-saw-it-on-TV visit are not in that loop at all.
Sports Already Trained the Up Button
This is not a cold start on game nights. Prime Video’s NBA pages already describe Shop the Game, where fans hunt deals and official merch without leaving the match, either by searching the shopping app or by using the remote’s up button to open a Shop tab that pings the phone. Thursday’s X-Ray tab is that control, stretched across movies and series.
The worry that a broadcast becomes a checkout mid-play is not a hypothetical. Amazon already productized it for basketball and has now put the same up-click behind dramas and comedies. If Lens starts tagging sideline jackets and living-room lamps with the same confidence it brings to a scripted scene, the sports feed and the Friday movie are one store with two soundtracks.
HOW THE LIVING ROOM BECAME A SHELF
- 2024: Shop the Show starts as a second-screen search in the Amazon Shopping app, tied to Prime Video playback on the same login.
- April 30, 2025: Amazon’s guide lists the tool across 1,300 U.S. titles, with a 30-day window after you watch.
- May 12, 2025: Amazon Ads adds AI pause ads and remote shoppable ads that pull live price, stock, and Prime shipping.
- September 10, 2026: An X-Ray Shop tab lands on Fire TV, Shop the Scene opens on more than 600 titles, and Shop the Show crosses more than 8,000 U.S. titles.
The catalog is now wide enough that most of what you stream in the U.S. can trail a storefront, while Lens still covers a smaller slice and still prefers a similar item when the costume is missing. Amazon did not need the original outfit. It needed the frame, the login, and a product close enough to ship.
