Ownership & Funding
Who owns WEAR YELLOW FOR SETH
This site is published by a small independent outfit owned by the working editors who run it. There is no parent media group, no outside shareholder, no political party or campaign behind us, and no business empire using a newsroom as a side project. Nobody holds a stake in this publication who is not doing the work, which keeps the answer to “who is really behind this” short and honest.
The publisher is registered where our editors live and work and files whatever the law of that place requires. We do not print the registration particulars on this page, because that kind of detail gets scraped and reused in scams and impersonation attempts against readers. If you have a genuine need for it, such as serving a legal notice or verifying us for a transparency listing, write to support@wearyellowforseth.com and we will provide it.
Because the owners are the editors, there is no proprietor phoning in to kill a story, and there is nowhere for us to hide either. If WEAR YELLOW FOR SETH publishes something indefensible, the people who own it published it.
No government money, no party, no hidden backer
We take no funding from any government, agency, party, campaign, front group or lobby. We are not anyone’s media arm, and we do not run coverage as a favour to a backer, because there is no backer to do favours for. Where a subject we cover has any connection to a source of our money, we say so in the story rather than leaving you to guess.
Where the money comes from
WEAR YELLOW FOR SETH is free to read. There is no paywall, no subscription and no login wall in front of the news. The site is paid for by advertising, and we would rather tell you exactly how than let you assume the worst.
- Programmatic display. Most of our revenue is automated display advertising filled through ad exchanges. In this model we usually do not know in advance which advertiser wins a given slot, which is inconvenient for selling and useful for our independence.
- Direct display. A smaller amount of advertising is sold directly to advertisers who want a specific placement. The rules for those deals are on our advertise page.
- Sponsored content. Occasionally a company pays for a post. When that happens it is clearly labelled as sponsored or paid, every time, with no exceptions and no clever euphemisms. It is not written by the news desk and it is not dressed up as ordinary coverage.
- Newsletter placement. If we run a newsletter with advertising, those placements follow the same labelling and the same refusal rules as the rest of the site.
Affiliate links, disclosed plainly
Some stories may contain affiliate links, which means we could earn a small commission if you buy something after clicking, at no extra cost to you. Where a story contains affiliate links it says so within the story. Affiliate income never decides what we cover, which products we mention, or whether a review is positive. If we would not have written about something on the merits, an affiliate arrangement does not get it written about. If we ever expand affiliate arrangements in a way that matters, this page is updated to describe it before the money is spent.
How advertising is kept away from the newsroom
Our team is small, so the wall between the money and the journalism is a matter of firm rules rather than separate buildings. The rules are few and they are absolute:
- Advertisers do not see stories before they publish, and no story is shown to a buyer for comment as a courtesy.
- Advertisers get no say over what we cover or how we cover it. Buying an advertisement buys attention, not influence.
- When an advertiser asks us to pull or soften coverage, the answer is no, and the request itself may become something we report.
- When a company that advertises with us becomes the subject of a story, the story is reported the same way it would be for anyone else, and any relevant relationship is disclosed.
How we source and check that coverage sits in our editorial standards and our fact-checking policy, and errors on this page are fixed the same way errors in our reporting are, which our corrections policy describes.
Grants, donations and reader support
At present we accept no grants, donations or reader contributions. If that ever changes, the terms are set before any money is taken, and they are not negotiable. We would name the funder, describe the amount in a band that actually means something, state the purpose and duration, and say plainly whether the funder had any say over what we cover. A grant conditioned on covering a particular subject, or on approval of our output, is not one we can accept and remain what we claim to be.
Conflicts of interest
Our editors do not hold positions in companies they cover in a way that would compromise the coverage, and they do not take paid work from parties, governments or businesses on their beat. Where a personal, family or financial interest touches a story, the person involved declares it and hands the story to someone else, and the handover is recorded rather than agreed quietly. Gifts, paid trips and hosted stays are the routine offer in this trade. We pay our own way, and on the rare occasion a trip is accepted on terms we can defend, the story states who paid.
Keeping this page honest
If the ownership changes, if an investor appears, if we take a grant, or if a revenue stream grows into something that could shape our judgement, this page is updated first, before any announcement elsewhere. The point of a page like this is not to look transparent, it is to be checkable. If something here reads as thin or evasive to you, say so: write to support@wearyellowforseth.com and ask the specific question. The wider account of who we are is on our about page.
